Spring update II
April 29:
It’s been a rocky start to the 2024 golf season but still weeks ahead of last year. After a good chunk of precipitation last week, we’re now waiting for the sun and heat to expand golf course maintenance practices.
Here is a highlighted list of recent activities from Ian and the grounds crew:
- Bunker edging and sand being added to numerous bunkers
- Leaves have been blown from fairways but routine cutting has been limited due to dryness
- You’ll see more and more stakes around tee boxes and fairway entrances to keep power carts to paths.
- 90* cart rule signs are out as a friendly reminder to members and guests alike
- Greens were sanded and chemicals applied
- Tree and debris cleared
Maintenance activities to ramp up in the next week:
- Sprinkler system to continue thawing and hopefully get water running and will rely less on Mother Nature supplying us rain
- Last year’s greens aeration holes will continue to fill in for an improved putting surface and fairways will be cut lower. The grounds crew are excited to put our new equipment to work without worrying about blade damages or wrecking greens.
Final word from the greens superintendent:
- Please take the time to fix divots and pitch marks on greens. Remember, a ball mark repaired within 10 minutes will fully recover within three days, but an unrepaired one will take two weeks or longer to heal.
